Archaeologists from Japan's Yamagata University, in collaboration with IBM Research, have used AI and drone technology to uncover 303 previously unknown geoglyphs near the Nazca Lines in Peru, nearly doubling the known figures at the site. Dating back to 200 BCE, these newly found geoglyphs depict animals like parrots, cats, and monkeys, as well as decapitated human heads. The smaller geoglyphs, unlike the larger Nazca figures, likely represented everyday life and family symbols rather than serving ritualistic purposes. The AI system significantly accelerated the discovery process, achieving in six months what traditionally took decades.
