MIT and NVIDIA Unveil Faster, Smarter AI Image Generator
MIT and NVIDIA researchers have developed a new AI tool called HART (Hybrid Autoregressive Transformer) that creates high-quality images up to 9x faster than current top models. HART combines the speed of autoregressive models with the detailed output of diffusion models. The system uses the fast model to sketch the image and then a lightweight diffusion model to add fine details like edges and facial features.
Unlike traditional diffusion models that need 30+ steps to generate an image, HART completes the job in just 8 steps, using less energy and hardware, and can even run on laptops or smartphones. This makes it ideal for real-world uses like training robots, video game design, or local image generation apps.
HART’s hybrid approach also makes it easier to connect with language-based AI, paving the way for future vision-language models that understand both words and images — like giving step-by-step visual instructions from a simple text command.
Amazon Introduces AI-Powered ‘Interests’ Shopping Feature
Amazon has launched a new AI feature called Interests, designed to help users discover products that match their personal passions and hobbies. Available to a limited number of U.S. customers via the Amazon app, Interests uses large language models (LLMs) to turn natural language prompts—like “modern industrial wall art” or “coffee brewing gadgets”—into ongoing product searches. Once a user sets a prompt, the AI continuously scans Amazon’s inventory and alerts them to new, relevant items, restocks, and deals.
Users can refine prompts anytime by adjusting details like materials, aesthetics, or price ranges. This feature joins Amazon’s growing suite of generative AI tools aimed at making shopping more intuitive, including AI Shopping Guides, review summaries, and the AI assistant Rufus. A wider rollout of Interests is planned in the coming months.
